Audrey L. Rhoads McElwee, 85 years of Batesville, IN, passed away on Sunday October 27, 2013 at the St. Andrews Health Campus.
She was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on November 25, 1927, the daughter of the late John L. and Mary E. Simmons McElwee. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Rhoads Jr., grandson Nicholas Rhoads, five brothers, Lawrence, Glenn, Dean, Norman and Don McElwee and one sister Jackie.
Audrey was a Cub Scout Troop and 4-H leader; a lifelong Member of the United Methodist Church, a Member of the Eastern Star; lifelong amateur poet, a member of the church choir; creative painter, a person interested in crafts and owner of the Gooseberry Craft Shop in Batesville, IN for several years. Early in life she worked for Goodyear Atomic Plant in Portsmouth, OH, then Public Service of Indiana in Batesville, IN and later in life, after retirement, spent several years actively working with organizing, leadership and instruction in the Non-Denominational Emmaus Walks of Central Indiana.
She was a wondering and extra-ordinary mother called Nan Nan, she was often the leader of the pack with the great grandchildren on vacation and deeply religious person who liked to say "there is nothing going to happen today that I and the Lord can't handle together!"
Audrey is survived by her sons Gregory Christine Rhoads of Cincinnati and Gordon Carol Rhoads of Batesville, IN, sister Eleanor Al Sanders of Grove City, OH, four grandchildren, Tonya Zembrodt and Talli Reinert of KY and Casey and Josh Rhoads of IN; and six great grandchildren, Loranna Cox, Sydney and Shelby Reinert, LeeAnn Zembrodt, Katelyn and Ciera Rhoads. Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Service will be 3:00 P.M. , Saturday November 2, 2013 at the Sinking Spring Community Church in Sinking Spring, OH. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sinking Spring, OH.
Friends may call at 1:00 P.M. unit time of service at the Sinking Spring Community Church.
