Barbara C. Colliver, 90 years of the Hillsboro community, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
She was born on March 2, 1933, in Highland County, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Margaret L. (Grover) Cummings. Beside her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. "Sammy" Colliver who passed away on May 29, 2021. Barbara and Sammy were married 66 years. She was also preceded by a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Ralph Shoemaker.
Barbara graduated from Marshall High School in 1951. Following her graduation, Barbara embarked on a career at Ohio Bell on October 29, 1951, where she devoted 48 years of loyal service until her retirement on October 29, 1999.
Barbara's dedication was not only confined to her professional life, but extended to her community and faith as well. A member of the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, Barbara actively participated in the Bell Choir and the Saturday Luncheon. Her love for music led her to join the Community Band, where she found immense joy and camaraderie.
She touched the lives of many, and her memory will be forever cherished by those she leaves behind. Barbara is survived by her loving children, Shawn Scott (Robert) Crandell of Madison, IN., Shay Samuel (Kelly) Colliver of Hillsboro and Bambi Colliver of Hillsboro, as well as her five grandchildren, Scott Crandell, Jade (Russell) Workman, Lauren (Matthew) Barnes, Madison (Hunter) Chain, Chase Colliver; three great grandchildren, Gracie and Gavin Isaacs and Hannah Barnes; two brothers, Ferris (Patty) Cummimgs and John Cummings of Hillsboro; two sisters, Shirley (Richard) Matthews of Jamestown, OH. and Dr. Mary Lou (John) Patton of Philadelphia, PA.; sister-in-law, Dixie Belle Thompson of Chino, CA.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the Public Viewing at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 8, 2024, followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Lloyd Shoemaker officiating. Graveside Service will take place at Marshall Cemetery where Barbara will be laid to rest.
Barbara's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her, her kindness and music echoing through the community she touched. Rest in peace, Barbara, may your melodies be eternal.
