Barbara J. Thompson, 70 years of Lynchburg, passed away on Saturday November 12, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Highland County on May 28, 1946, the daughter of the late Walter and Edna (Davis) Varvel. Besides her parents, she was also preceded by her brother, Harold Varvel and two sisters, Geneva Whitmer and Marie Peterson.

Barbara was a member of the Samantha Freewill Baptist Church.

Barbara is survived by her husband, George Thompson, whom were married on March 23, 1963, two sons, George (Joni) Thompson of Lynchburg and Eric (Danielle) Thompson of Hillsboro, two daughters, Jeanette (Rob) Ludwick of Hillsboro and Lori (Chuck) Lewis of Lynchburg, eleven grandchildren: Jason (Jennifer) Ludwick, Casey (Perry) Trefz, Kim (Bill) Roode, Tiffany (Cody) Shaw, Quinton Lewis, Ashley Thompson, Courtney (Kyle) Dawes, Ashlin Fulkerson, Garhett Thompson, Meghan Thompson and Joseph Thompson, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday November 16, 2016 at the Samantha Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hightop Cemetery in Samantha.

Friends may call from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday November 15, 2016 at the church.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
