Bertha Lou Buchanan, 86 years of Winchester, died on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at Gray Court, South Carolina.
She was born at Bellfarm, Kentucky on November 14, 1918 the daughter of a coalminer, Manuel Kidd and her mother Anna Kidd.
Bert her nickname by those who knew her well had a love for the outdoors, nature, and animals. She was driven each year with a passion of getting her vegetable and flower gardens in the ground and showing them off to those who stopped by for a visit.
Her children remember a family pet dog, a Pug named Tiny Tim, whose job was to break up the children when they were squabbling. Tiny would only allow Bertha to pick him up.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters, Dessie Kidd and Ina Waters and two brothers Hershell Emmet Kidd and Leonard Kidd and one brother-in-law June Waters. Bertha is also preceded in death by a cherished daughter-in-law Joan Gibson Brown.
Bertha is survived by her husband Albert R. Buchanan, whom she married on December 28, 1968. She is also survived by three sons, Norman A. Brown, Robert L. Debbie Brown, and Harold D. Charlotte Brown ; two daughters, Carol S. Dennis Ellis, and Lois A. Charley Folk ; one step-son Kenny Nancy Buchanan; and two step-daughters, Peggy Gary Morrison and Penny Donald ?Red? Morrison; three brothers, Otis Geneva Kidd, Dean Betty Kidd, and Harold Toby Kidd; two sisters Esie LutherWorley and Donna Tom Frost and two additional sister-in-laws, Madie Kidd, and Judy Kidd Miller.
Bertha is survived by 11 grandchildren: they are Donna Keith Bourne, Nathan and Sierra Brown, Wayne Harcourt former wife Lisa, Diane Jon Coley, Michelle Jeff Burgess, Steven Brown, Scott Brown, and Kelly Brown partner Chris Heffner, Juanita Brown and Richie Brown.
Bertha is survived by 8 great-grandchildren: they are Haley and Rachel Bourne, Kaitlyn and Andrew Harcourt, Courtney and Tyler Coley, Drema Harmon, and baby Austin Heffner.
Funeral Services will be on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bradford-Sullivan Chapel, 19306 State Route 136, Winchester, Ohio 45697 telephone number 937-695-0622. Burial will follow at the Fincastle West Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday, June 19, 2005 from 2:00 till 4:00 p.m. at Bradford Sullivan Funeral Home.
