Betty L. Ellis, 73 years of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004 in her sleep at her residence from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
She was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on October 17, 1931 the daughter of the late Ralph and Evelyn Johnson Waits.
She was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and worked at the Press Gazette after High School. On March 1, 1953 she was united in marriage to Howard H. Ellis. She joined him in the Dairy Queen business and they bought his partners share of the business from William and Joann Lucas of Washington Court House in May of 1953. They continued in the business until April of 1996, after 53 years. The last nine years she owned the business after her husband retired. She was a lifetime member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir in her younger years, and was treasurer of Mary Martha Circle for many years before her death. She was also a member of the Towne Club.
She is survived by her husband, Howard H. Ellis, daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Greg Ford of Spring Valley, brother and sister-in-law, Ronald E. and Delores Waits of Lebanon, sister, Patricia A. and Ralph H. Peacock of Carroll, Ohio, two grandchildren, Katie and Justin Ford, and one great grandchild, Haley.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Shonkwiler officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
