Loretta G. "Scrubby" Thompson, 88 years of Punta Gorda, FL., passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021.
Scrubby was November 21, 1932 in Mifflin Township, Pike County, OH., the daughter of the late Elmer and Farie (Johnson) Tong. Beside her parents, Scrubby was preceded in death by her husband, William L. "Bill" Thompson on July 7, 2021; daughter, Trudy Dubois on January 31, 2020; sister, Gladys P. Hilterbran.
Scrubby is survived by her grandson, Jayson Dubois of Washington D.C., brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ronald and Shirley Thompson of Grove City, OH.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Scrubby was a graduate of Western Pike (Latham) High School. After graduation, Scrubby was united in marriage to William L. "Bill" Thompson on May 15, 1951. Scrubby and Bill celebrated 70 years of marriage. You might say Scrubby worked 30 years for the Ohio Historical Society since she worked every summer weekend at Serpent Mound in the concession stand and museum with Bill who had retired from the Ohio Historical Society. Many of the students at Franklin High School in Locust Grove remember Scrubby for the great food they ate while attending there as she worked for several years at the school. Scrubby was a true and wonderful care giver. After retiring from the Ohio Historical Society, Scrubby and Bill were care givers to both there parents, Bill's aunt and his sister, Martha and there daughter, Trudy. Scrubby and Bill resided and worked at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring prior to moving to Florida where they retired to.
A Combined Memorial Graveside Service will held 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Locust Grove Cemetery for both Scrubby and Bill. Greg Seaman will officiate. Everyone is invited to attend.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
