Charles M. Purdin, a beloved member of the Hillsboro community, passed away on December 21, 2023, at the age of 83. Born on December 9, 1940, in Hillsboro, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ray and Mary E. (Marsh) Purdin. Besides his parents, he is also preceded by his son, Thomas Allen Purdin and great grandson, Kevin Jenkins, Jr. Charles was a man of simple pleasures and unwavering dedication, whose life was marked by genuine connections and quiet reflection.
In his early years, Charles served his country with honor and pride as a member of the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he dedicated several years of his life to working as a machinist at Milacron, showcasing his skills and meticulous attention to detail. Charles took great satisfaction in his work, always willing to lend a helping hand to those who needed it.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Charles knew the importance of finding joy outside of the workplace. He cherished the time spent with his loving spouse, Christie Purdin, who was a constant source of support and happiness for him. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter, building a solid foundation for their family.
Charles had an enduring passion for the Southern Ohio Soapbox Derby. As an active participant, he took pride in mentoring young racers and nurturing their enthusiasm for the sport. Charles was known for his patience and guidance, fostering the development of countless young individuals and instilling in them values that would carry them far beyond the race track.
Charles M Purdin will be remembered as a gentle soul with a warm smile and a soft-spoken nature. Those who had the privilege of knowing him will surely miss his calming presence and unwavering support. As we gather to mourn his loss and celebrate his life, let us reflect on the kindness he brought into our lives and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
Besides his wife, Charles is survived by his children, Anna May (Richard) Vilvens of Lynchburg, Charles (Glenna) Purdin of Hillsboro, Betty Mootz of Lynchburg, Victor Purdin of Martinsville, Kelly Nicol of Chillicothe, Kyle (Lisa) Purdin of Hillsboro and Marion (Kara) Purdin of Hillsboro, 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, brothers, Ronnie (Leona) Purdin of Surgartree Ridge, David (Pat) Purdin of Hillsboro and Ray "Butch" (Wilma) Purdin, Jr. of Hillsboro, sisters, Ramona (Bill) Eaglin of Florida, Bonnie (Charles) Nace of Surgartree Ridge and Mary (David) Williams of Florida and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday December 28, 2023 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Dunn's Chapel Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
