Cindorella Miller Abell

Cindorella Miller "Cindy" Abell, 97 years, of Hillsboro passed away January 16, 2018 peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Marshall, OH on September 9, 1920 the daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth (Henry) Miller. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Abell, who she married on August 4, 1946; sister, Nina Evelyn (William) Garvey; brother, Lewis "Chet" Miller; and two nephews Thomas & David Miller.

Cindy graduated from Marshall High School in 1938 and went on to receive a bachelors degree in English Literature with a minor in French from Wilmington College, a masters degree from Miami University in Oxford and a Ph.D. in Media Studies from Southern Illinois University. She was a life long teacher and educator having taught or administered at Ashland High School, Talawanda High School, Hughes High School, Clark Academy, Miami University in Middletown and Cincinnati Tech. Cindy was also responsible for the development and running of several Learning Center/Libraries including at the original Southern State Community College campus in Wilmington.

She was also very active in the Methodist church having taught Sunday school to 3-year olds for thirty years at the Oxford United Methodist church and then later attending the United Methodist Church in Marshall.

Cindy is survived by her sons, George Roger (Lynn) Abell of Santa Clarita, CA, James Miller Abell of Sausalito, CA, and John (Sandy) Abell of Hillsboro, OH; daughter, Mary Ellen (Carmen) Cicero of New York, NY; five grandchildren, Kristin (Derek) Wait, Sarah (Adam) Crouch, Johnny Abell, Nathan Abell, and Kip Abell; sister-in-law Cherry Miller of Bainbridge; and nephew, William Miller.

A memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday January 21, 2018 at the Marshall United Methodist Church in Marshal with Pastor Betty Jo Sommerville presiding.

The family asks that donations be made to the Marshal United Methodist Church, 11398 State Route 506, Hillsboro, OH 45133.
