Clarence Warren Swayne, 86 years of Manchester, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Adams County Hospital in West Union.
He was born in Smokey Corner near Locust Grove on August 27, 1916 the son of the late Homer Burton and Melissa Hilderbran Swayne.
Clarence was a member of Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church of Columbus, Manchester Lodge #317 for over fifty years, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus, and Nathaniel Massie #548 Order of Eastern Star of Manchester. He worked as a Greyhound bus driver and a guard at Westinghouse in Columbus.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Glen, Ira, Gene, Forrest, and Berlin Swayne; sisters, Bertha and Ruth Swayne; son-in-law, John Lewis; and grandson, Timothy Lewis.
He was united in marriage to Lola Catherine Wallace on October 7, 1936. To this union two daughters were born: Jo Richard Rolfe of Sabina and Judy Lewis of Manchester. He is also survived by a brother, Omer Cleston Edith Swayne of McDermitt, Ohio, grandsons, Scott Douglas Terri Lewis of Batesville, Indiana, Michael Jacque Coady of Canton, North Carolina, Mark Lori Lewis of Manchester, and Matthew Bridget Coady of Crestwood, Kentucky; step-grandsons, Phillip Karen and John Anita Rolfe of Sabina; great granddaughters, Patricia, Angela, Pamela, and Satrista Lewis and Mackenzie Coady; step-great grandchildren, Chris Terrill Rolfe, Robyn Tom Shultheis, Jeremy Melissa, John Stacy, and Jennifer Rolfe; and five step-great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles with Marlyn Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Masonic Services at 7:30 P.M.
