David J. Young, 57 years of Seaman, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at his residence.
He was born in West Union, Ohio on March 11, 1954.
He was preceded in death by one brother; Mark A. Young.
David was a member of the West Union Methodist Church and attended the Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union. David graduated West Union High School in 1972 and went on to teach and coach for 35 years. In his professional career he received many honors; among which were Who's Who in American Teachers, 1998; Division III State Semi-Finalist Basketball Coach, 1996; Division III State Basketball Coach of the Year, 2009, and 403 career varsity basketball wins.
He is survived by his parents; Frank B. and Joann Smittle Young of West Union, his wife of 29 years; Nancy Parry Young of Seaman, two daughters and son-in-law; Amy and Jed White of New Plymouth, Ohio and Megan Young of Sardinia, one brother and sister-in-law; Matthew and Emily Young of Winchester, one sister and brother-in-law; Debbie and Walter Gray of West Union, one sister-in-law; Candice Young of London, Ohio, three grandchildren; Sara, Mason, and Maxwell White, seven nieces and nephews, one great nephew, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Dan Harrison and Rev. Marilyn Roades officiating. Burial will follow in Cherry Fork Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union.
Memorials may be made to Winchester Church of Christ in Christian Union, Upwards Basketball, or Hospice of Hope. Arrangements are also being made for a scholarship/memorial fund in David's name.
Wallace-Thompson Funeral Homes, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman is in charge of the arrangements.
