Delmar L. Davis

Delmar L. Davis, 81 years of Winchester, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at the Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia.

He was born in Adams County, Ohio on June 24, 1923 the son of the late Stanley L. and Elsie Mae Roush Davis.

He grew up, worked and lived almost all of his life in Winchester. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1941, served a short time in the Army Air Corp, and married B. Dean Jones in 1943. He worked for the Standard Oil Company for several years, farmed and served as Chief of Police in Winchester. He loved being around kids and seeing them grow up, and the jobs he seemed to enjoy most were driving the school bus and serving as custodian at the Winchester School. He retired from the school system in 1989 after approximately 20 years.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, B. Dean Davis, two brothers, Harlan and Chester Davis, and two grandchildren, Nathan Pierce and Brittany Madden.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Dwane Davis of Winchester, Bruce and Carolee Davis of Winchester, three daughters and sons-in-law, LaDonna and William Wood of West Carrolton, Ohio, Lebby and Ross Madden of Winchester, Bonita and Tom Pierce of Peebles, one brother-in-law, Daril Naomi Jones of Columbus, three sisters-in-law, Peggy Harold Short of Sardinia, Phyllis Davis of Seaman, Ruth Ishmael of Carlisle, Kentucky, eight grandchildren, E. Allan Skinner, Kristi Madden Douglas, DeAnna Madden King, Gabbriel Madden, Brian and Amy Davis, Todd Pierce, and Marci Pierce Vogler, six great grandchildren, Alexis and Alona Douglas, Elijah Madden, Evan King, Madison and Ethan Pierce, and several nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 till 1:00 P.M. at the Bradford-Sullivan Funeral Home.
