Donald William "Bill" Main, 87 years old of the Marshall Community, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky.
Bill was born March 6, 1935, in Marshall, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Francis and Mary Myrtle (Hammond) Main. Beside his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Main. Bill was also proceeded in death by a nephew Edward Main, great nephew Jonathan Willoughby, brother-in-law Elmer Fields, brother-in-law Bob Mason, brother-in-law Terry Kendall, sister-in-law Carol Jean Chinn.
Bill was born at his grandparent's farm (Hammond) in North Union and raised in the Marshall Community where he graduated from Marshall High School in 1953. After graduating, Bill proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army Artillery. After he returned from the service, he worked at RobertShaw controls Company, where he met his wife, Joyce; Hobart Corporation for several years and retired from DP&L.
Bill attended the Marshall United Methodist Church; took immense pride and joy serving as a former Marshall Township Trustee for 20 years and a Marshall Volunteer Fire fighter for several years; served the Democrat Central Committee for numerous years; avid member of the Highland Amateur (Ham) Radio Association receiving his license in 1977.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He and his wife Joyce enjoyed traveling the US in their camper, and spending winters in Florida visiting their daughter's family. He relished time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren giving them, and anyone else willing, a jungle ride in the woods.
On July 2, 1961, Bill was united in marriage to Joyce W. (Chinn) Main who survives. They were blessed with two daughters, Debra S. (Jay) Jones of Hillsboro, Jo Ann (Joe) Penkalski of Delray Beach, Fl.; four grandchildren, Clinton (Amanda) Shoemaker, Courtney (Sean) Wood, Nicole Penkalski, Madison Penkalski; three great grandchildren, Cade Shoemaker, Bobby Keirns, Paisley Wood; two sisters, Mary Frances "Cookie" Fields, and Judy Mason; sister-in-law, Shirley Main; brother-in-law Glenn Chinn, sister-in-law Carolyn Kendall; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Private Family visitation with service will be held Friday, June 10 from 9 AM to 11 AM followed by graveside services with Military Rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard at the Marshall Cemetery.
Everyone is invited to attend A Gathering of Family and Friends on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Barnyard Venue in Marshall.
