Dorothy Jeanne Leydig

Dorothy Jeanne Schroyer Leydig was born on October 14, 1919 in Stoystown Pennsylvania to George and Anna Schroyer. Her father was a coal mine supervisor and her mother was a telephone operator. She had one brother, Victor Merle Schroyer, deceased.



Jeanne never liked being called Dorothy and usually signed her name D. Jeanne. She married Herbert Lester Leydig on February 7, 1941 and resided in Hyndman Pennsylvania. She was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and Co. in Cumberland Maryland. Herbert was a salesman for Sears Roebuck and Co. and later, Montgomery Ward and Co. They had three children. Judi Ann Larry Wiley is an Episcopal Priest in Hillsboro Ohio. Larry Lee Kay, deceased worked for Sprint and is retired. He lives in Lady Lake Florida. Robert Lynn Irma has his own business as an independent carpenter and lives in McKinney Texas. Jeanne leaves seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.



Jeanne was recently confirmed in the Episcopal Church in Hillsboro and attended there until she got sick. She lived with Judi and her husband in Hillsboro Ohio. She loved to play cards, bingo, and other board games. She was very social and loved to give parties and have guests. She was involved in a Senior's group in Hillsboro as well as working in the church nursery. Jeanne was a great cook and when the grandchildren heard she was cooking, they came running.

Jeanne was a resident of Heartland of Hillsboro Nursing home for 9months before she died on October 7, 2011.

Visitation will be at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Monday, October 10 from 6-8 pm.

A Memorial service, led by Rev Maurice Mitchell, is planned for Tuesday, October 11, at 7 pm at St Mary's Episcopal Church, 234 N High Street, in Hillsboro.

Jeanne will be buried beside her husband in Hyndman, PA.
