Duane Millard Mootz, 77 years of Hillsboro, died Friday, August 30, 2002.
He was born and raised in Lawrence County, Ohio on October 30, 1924 the son of Charles and Laura Mootz.
He was a WWII Veteran serving in the 23rd Infantry in Italy, moved to Highland County in 1950, National Contour Plowing Champion in 1957 held at Peebles, Ohio, placed 10th in the World Plowing Contest in 1958 held in Germany, Hammer Township Trustee for 16 years, served on Board of Trustees and Board of Governors at the Highland District Hospital, started the Mootz Trucking Company in 1966 and was a area Farmer all of his life.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Bradley Eugene Mootz, one grandchild, Joshua Daniel Mootz, four brothers, Daniel Mootz, Carol Mootz, Robert Mootz, Charles Mootz, two sisters, Nancy Harrison and Marie Rubedor.
He is survived by his wife Dolores Neva Lewis Mootz, eight sons, Gregory Jody Mootz of Hillsboro, Glen Sue Mootz of Peebles, Tim Ramona Mootz of Hillsboro, Tom Sandy Mootz of Lynchburg, Jim Barbara Mootz of Lynchburg, Nathan Melanie Mootz of Hillsboro, Jon Ruby Mootz of Hillsboro, Charlie Cheryl Mootz of Sardinia, three daughters, Becky Todd Clinton of Sardinia, Sarah Rodney Rose of Lynchburg, Naomi Jerry Barnett of Lynchburg, two brothers John Willa Jean Mootz of Hillsboro, Keith Sheila Mootz of Kitts Hill, one sister, Joy Harold Gannon of Ironton, eighteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Ed Smith and Troy Roush officiating. Burial will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 4:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home.
