Elwood "Woody" Sweet, 81 years of Winchester, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010 at his residence.
He was born in Tolesboro, Kentucky on November 26, 1928 the son of the late Tom and Fannie McCann Sweet.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the Winchester Fire Department for thirty years, Cameron-Ellis Winchester American Legion Post #242, an Adams County Advocate for two years, and a member of Ohio Valley Antique Tractor Association.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lois Sweet, who passed away on December 3, 1997, one brother; W.T. Sweet, and two sisters; Mary Ellen Garrett and Bess Tucker.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law Russell and Gayle Sweet of Winchester, son and fiancé Jerry Sweet and D'Anne Bradds of Winchester, one sister; Lenna Haney of Louisville, Kentucky, three grandchildren; Heather Renee, Shirley Jean, and Tommy Sweet, two great grandchildren; Chloe and Joey, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Homes, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman with Rev. Dan Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Winchester Cemetery with military graveside services given by the Adams County Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Wallace-Thompson Funeral Homes, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman.
