Gladys R. Mcguire

McGUIRE, Gladys Reid, age 93, who resided in Mason for more than 50 years, died Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community where she had lived since February 2004.
She was born in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, on April 29, 1912, the daughter of the late George A. and Margaret J. Bissett Reid.
Her father and paternal uncle Alexander Reid, and her maternal grandparents Cameron Bissett and Margaret J. Smith, migrated to Canada from Scotland. She took great pride in her Scottish and Canadian heritage and her life was enriched by a broad circle of devoted family and friends in Canada, Scotland and England as well as in Ohio and elsewhere in the United States. She became a United States citizen in 1937.
Following a brief employment with Dakin Insurance in Lebanon, she worked for many years for the Aufranc Insurance agency in Mason. After the death of her employer and dear friend W. H. "Bill" Aufranc, she worked at the Backus Insurance Agency in Montgomery until her retirement.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kelly Reid and Charlotte Anne Shelor McGuire, and grandson, Duncan Reid McGuire, all of 4286 Twin Rivers Drive, Gainesville, Georgia, 30504.
Family interment took place in Hillsdale Cemetery in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada, where she will rest for eternity beside her beloved mother and father.
Kelly, Charlotte and Duncan wish to express their most heartfelt appreciation to Bill, Scrubby and Steve Thompson of Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring for their kindness and professionalism in handling final arrangements and to the exceptional staff at The Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community for making our mother and grandmother's final 18 months the best that they could be.
