Gordon Daily Hawk, 83, of Hillsboro, formerly of Lucasville, Ohio, died at 11:55am on December 5, 2005. He was born on October 9, 1922 in Lucasville, Ohio, the son of the late Preston Ashby and Cora Pearl Daily Hawk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Step-Mother, Bessie Spriggs Hawk, four brothers, Gerald, Charles, Eugene and Roger and two sisters Hilda Hinton and Catherine Metzger.
He married Martha Ann Coll in March of 1942 and two daughters were born of this union. Nancy Ann Bowser of Zachary, LA and Janet Eileen Charles Artis of Centerville, OH. His second marriage to Minnie P. Johnson in August 1967 resulted in daughter Tina K. David Fuller of Lewis Center, OH and step-daughter, Teresa Ellen Grimsley of Rainsboro, OH. Nine grandchildren Martha JeannetteSteve Setzer, John Christopher Bowser, Mary ElizabethWayne Griffin, Maria KatherineKevin Ellzey, Whittnie Ann Artis, Gregory Scott Artis, Aaron Wade Grimsley, Madeline Grace Fuller and Chloe Elizabeth Fuller by 16 great-grandchildren: Anna Louise Setzer, Caleb Thomas Setzer, Zachary Daily Setzer, Elizabeth AnnJason Welborn Sarah Camille Hynum, Rebekah Eileen Hynum, Justin Wayne Griffin, Chad Michael Griffin, Justin Cody Bowser, Christopher Shane Bowser, Jaqueline Paige Bowser, Shea Danielle Ellzey, Kristen Nicole Ellzey, Leon Jay Ellzey, Chelsea Danielle Artis and Amanda Beth Artis. Also surviving are brothers Donald Lillie Hawk, Richard Leona Hawk, Warren Vivian Hawk, Preston Rachael Hawk, and Walter Francis Mary Hawk and sisters Mary Ann Lou Wherman, Margaret Mitchell and Charlotte Thomas Wear.
He was a member and Past Master of Lucasville Lodge # 465 F&AM Masons and of the William A. Baker American Legion Post #363 of Lucasville, OH.
He served as a flight instructor for the Eastern Training Command of the Army Air Force during WWII. Upon return to civilian life, he worked at various jobs prior to entering the insurance business with the Kemper Group. He retired in 1980, and then served 11 plus years on the Valley Local School District Board of Education. During this tenure he was involved the renovation and construction of two new buildings.
There will be no showing at the deceased request. Following cremation the ashes will be entombed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Frankfort, Ohio with military rights by the American Legion and US Air Force on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 1:00PM.
