Harry Van Buren Barrett

Harry Van Buren Barrett, 93 years of Dayton, died Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Otterbein Retirement Center at Lebanon.

He was born at Marshall, Ohio on June 4, 1913 the son of Jacob H. and Callie Eakins Barrett.

Harry was the great-great grandson of Jonathan Barrett who came to Highland County from Virginia in 1805. His early life was spent on the farm, during WWII he took a job at Wright Field in Dayton as a civilian technician. His lifelong love was amateur radio. His call was W8UNR and he was a member of the Hillsboro Amateur Radio Association for many years. He was also a member of the Power Squadron in the 50?s and was adamant about boating safety.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ludwick Barrett on October 11, 1997, and two brothers, Fred Barrett and Forest Barrett.

He is survived by two sons, Fred Barrett of Englewood, FL, John Barrett of Dayton, OH, four grandsons, Jeff Debbie Barrett of Pataskala, Oh, Jim Lori Barrett of Somerset, N.J., Jay Debbie Barrett of Coeur D Alene, ID, Joe Barrett of Englewood, FL and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Janie Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Tobias Funeral Home in Dayton Belmont Chapel and on Wednesday from 12:00 noon till time of service at 2:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
