Hazel Maxine (Taylor) Howard 90 of Hillsboro passed on to Jesus' care in her home 08/08/2020 surrounded by love and devotion.
She is preceded in death by her parents Sanford and Dessie (Slagle) Taylor, brothers Joe Taylor, Leo Taylor and Larry Taylor, sisters Annie David, Ivy Hoffer, and Ginny May. Husband John Howard, son Richard Taylor, granddaughter, Jill Taylor and grandson Scott Holsinger.
She is survived by brothers Tommy Taylor, Roger Taylor, and Elden Taylor. Daughters Rosemary (Todd) Warden of Princeton, Texas, Barbara Hoople of Wheelersburg, Virgie Howard of Hillsboro, Evelyn Howard-Osborn of Sinking Springs, and son Troy Howard of Hillsboro and twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Hazel lived a long and simple life filled with prayer, gratitude, extraordinary stories, tall-tales, and a love of music. A hands-on farmwife and mother to six children she approached domesticity and motherhood with adaptability, ingenuity, and pure unadulterated stubbornness. A depth of fortitude and perseverance guided her through many trials, tribulations, and tests of faith in her lifetime. She possessed self-belief and patience that led to life experiences that she used to guide and teach her own family. She was an avid reader and card player and was liable to fall into a good ole hillbilly two-step at any moment. She found beauty in small things; her morning glories, a nicely mowed lawn, a good hair day, a small child to cuddle, a kitten to tease. Ornery and mischievous she enjoyed pulling small pranks, telling "grandma" jokes, and laughing at her own cleverness. She had untold fathoms of internal strength that created a wise survivor, a sage warrior, a true matriarch. "A woman's strength lies not in her heart to be blinded, but within her soul to chase away the shadows."
