Helen Collins White, 91, of Natrona Heights, PA, died on January 11, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, PA. Born on September 11, 1927 in Hillsboro, Ohio to Grover Cleveland and Pearl Prine Collins, she lived in Natrona Heights for the past 58 years.
A graduate of Hillsboro High School in 1945, she continued her studies at Bliss Business School and was employed by Predmore and Pence Law Firm as a Legal Secretary from 1945 - 1952. After moving to PA, she became a homemaker. She volunteered many years for Meals on Wheels. Early on she was a Girl Scout leader, den mother and a volunteer at Allegheny Valley Hospital.
Helen enjoyed reading, knitting, needlepoint, boating, bowling, travelling, playing cards and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. She was also the #1 fan for her children's sporting events of baseball, basketball and swimming.
She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Brackenridge, PA where she had served on the Altar Guild. She was a former member of the Brackenridge Heights Country Club, Oakmont Yacht Club, River Forest Yacht Club, Petal and Twig Club, BHCC Bowling League, The Knitting Club, The Needlepoint Club and the Pittsburgh Power Squadron.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Joanne) White of Delmar, NY and David (Cathy) White of Export, PA, two daughters, Ann (Werner) Emmrich of Plainfield, IL and Susan (Gary) Sobkiw with whom she resided with in Natrona Heights, PA. She has 6 grandchildren: Kristen (Tim) Melia of Overland Park, KS, Bryan (Ashley) White of Charlotte, NC, Clay Emmrich of Indianapolis, IN, Savannah (Carter) Elms of Shalimar, FL, and John and Katie White of Export, PA. She has one great granddaughter, Rowen Melia of Overland Park, KS. She is also survived by a sister, Margery Barney and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Barlett White, and two brothers, Frank and George Collins of Hillsboro, Ohio.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM to time of service Thursday, January 17, 2019, at Thompson Funeral Home.
