Herman L. Mercer

April 12, 1916 — January 11, 2002

Herman L. Mercer, 85 years of Hillsboro, died Friday, January 11, 2002 at the Heartland of Hillsboro.

He was born in Highland County, Ohio on April 12, 1916 the son of the late Charles and Bertha Johnson Mercer.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force Sergeant serving in World War II. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Fall Creek Friends Church.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth, Norman, and Wilbur Mercer, and four sisters, Fayette McConnaughey, Dorothy Perry,Doris Koch and Virginia Kerns.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Spargur Mercer, who he married on August 12, 1950, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Mark Wilkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilboa Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Sunday from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home.
