Howard A. Rhoads

Howard A. Rhoads, 88 years of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at his residence.

He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on October 9, 1917 the son of the late Allen T. and Jessie Stanforth Rhoads.

He was a 1936 graduate of Hillsboro High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1945 with the Army Air Force 27th Depot Group. He worked for South Central Power as a lineman for thirty-two years. He enjoyed repairing and refinishing furniture, thru which he made many cherished acquaintances. He volunteered with placing the original lights at Richards Memorial Field and the Dick Shaffer Park.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, Myron, Cecil, Lawrence, Donald, and Ronald Rhoads, and five sisters, Elsie Rhoads, Virginia Gillespie, Kathern Post, Alice Rhoads, and Lena Brown.

He was united in marriage on May 20, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Caroline Bussey Rhoads, who survives. He is also survived by daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Bob Storer of Hillsboro, son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Judy Rhoads of Madeira, grandchildren, Vicki Storer and Kim Jeffrey Johnson of Hillsboro, Tylor Karri Rhoads of Kettering, Ryan Fiancee, Katie Jacobs Rhoads of Loveland, Whitney Rhoads of Air Force Omaha, Nebraska, great grandchildren, Shelby and Sydney Bobbitt, Stephanie and J.D. Johnson, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Todd Toole officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard. Friends may call on Friday from 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
