Howard Edward . "Eddie" Sellers, 86 years of the Marshall Community, passed away on Monday September 7, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Marshall on September 15, 1928, the son of the late Andrew Wilson (Doc) and Ruth L. (Kneisley)Sellers. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by one son Elder Nesbit Sellers, three sisters Evelyn Storer, Mildred Clipner and Janice Lewis.
Eddie was the owner of Sellers Orchard, in Marshall for over 50 years, a graduate of Marshall High School where he played basketball and won the 1945-1946 County Championship match against Leesburg, member of the Marshall United Methodist Church, NRA, DAV, VFW #9094, served on the Marshall Volunteer Fire Department for many years, a member of the Ohio Agriculture Apiary Association and enjoyed trap shooting and coon hunting. Eddie entered service on January 11, 1951 with Company E, 35th Regimental Combat Team (The Cacti) 25th Infantry Tropical Lightning Division. He was sent to Korea in November of 1951 and suffered shrapnel wounds to the head during combat in February of 1952. Approximately four months later, on June 20, 1952, Corporal Sellers was wounded a second time while on night patrol at Heartbreak Ridge. He sustained a chest wound and compound fracture of the leg. Eddie was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster for his wounds.
He is survived by two daughters Myra E. Sellers of Chillicothe, OH., Mary E. (Jim) Spahr of Jamestown, OH., one son Michael E. Sellers of Hillsboro, OH.; one grandson Eric J. Spahr; special friend Ethel Baker and her four children David (Tina) Baker, Dennis (Debbie) Baker, Keith (Jennifer) Baker and Peggy Ewing and her children, Nicholas, Emily, Megan, granddaughter, Abbi and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside Services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Marshall Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Dotts officiating. Military Gravesite Rites will be conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
No visitations will be observed. The Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro is serving the family.
