Irene Elizabeth Price Hayes, a scrappy 82-year-old who always told it as she saw it, went to be with her lord and savior Jesus Christ Monday, December 3, 2007, at Hospitality Homes Nursing Center in Xenia, Ohio.
She was born November 25, 1925 in Ashland, KY, to the late Jacob and Ellen Rawlins Price.
Orphaned at a young age, she survived some of her childhood years as a household servant in South Ashland and later worked in the photographic department of Wright Field now part of Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, OH. She also worked as a collator at Reynolds Paper Co., in Dayton. During her most productive years Irene and her late husband, Billy Ray Hayes, owned and operated Hayes Grocery at Scottown, OH.
Irene loved children and animals. Although she never had children of her own, she had numerous nieces and nephews she doted over and who thought of her as a second mom. Her animals were so well treated that one brother was quoted as saying that if he should be reincarnated, he wants to come back as Irene?s dog.
She is survived by two sisters, Goldie Thomas Nash of Council Bluffs, IA, and Laura Alvin Chapman, Fairborn, OH; a brother, Randall ?Gene? Madonna Hollingsworth of Xenia, OH; a sister-in-law June Hollingsworth of Hillsboro, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Homer E. Price, Jodie Price, George H. Hollingsworth and Donald Dean Hollingsworth; two sisters Clara B. Hall and Naomi K. Brewer; and several step-brothers and step-sisters.
She was a member of Northside Church of Christ, Hillsboro, OH.
Thompson Funeral Home, Hillsboro, OH, is in charge of arrangements. Services will be at the convenience of the family.
