Jack R. Garman, age 80, died at The Laurels of Hillsboro on Friday February 25, 2005.
He was born May 8, 1924 in Ross County to W.C. and Cecile Garman. Preceded in death by wife, Joan Stephens Garman and daughter Jan Garman Looman. Survived by daughter, Joy Garman Remley and sons-in-law Dan Remley and John Looman all of Columbus Grandchildren include, Jessica Looman Jason Lonstein of St. Paul, Minnesota and Alex and Hilary Remley of Columbus and great grandchild, Jack Looman Lonstein of St. Paul. Surviving Siblings include, Walter Garman of Hillsboro, Dane Garman and Mona Pearce, both of Greenfield, Ohio, and George Garman of Pittsburgh. Also Survived by many other dear family members and many dear friends.
Jack graduated from Hillsboro High School, class of 1942. He was a varsity cheerleader with his future wife at HHS. He attended Miami University of Ohio for one year before entering the Army Air Force. He was a World War II veteran and served as a radio operator in a B17 crew that flew 33 missions over Europe. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Jack was employed by Highland Enterprise Lumber Company for 40 years, many of which he served as manager. He was a member of the Hillsboro Rotary Club for 50 years and had perfect attendance for close to 40 years, served as past president and treasurer. Jack served on the Boards and held offices in the Hillsboro Elks club and the Highland County Historical Society. He was a Republican in good standing and served as county committeeman and election judge for many years. He was a community activist and dedicated to making Hillsboro a better place to live. He has stated many times that he did not wish to live anywhere else.
He was a modest and generous man, both with his money and his time. The loves of his life after his family, included telling stories, traveling and always making friends from strangers. He was a voracious reader and sports fan. He enjoyed hunting with his friends and brothers and judging beagle trials.
After retiring he continued to work hard for his favorite charities including, running Bingo at the Elks, and investing money for the Historical Society. Jack was a formidable poker player and spent many long hours around the table, wining pots and bragging rights, and making life long friends at the same time.

Jack spent most of the last year of his life at the Laurels of Hillsboro, he made many friends there and enjoyed all the staff that got to know him.

Arrangements: Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery with Military Graveside services by the Highland County Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Monday evening February 28, 2005 from 6:00 till 9:00 P.M. at the
funeral home.
