James Robert Garen

James Robert �Bob� Garen, 72 years of the Carmel Community, died Sunday morning, May 22, 2011 at his residence.

Bob was born May 26, 1938 in the Marshall area, the son of the late Richard Garen and Clara Wagoner Garen of Hillsboro.

Bob attended Marshall High School and was a 1956 graduate. He was an Army Veteran serving his country for eight years. He attended Cynthiana Church of Christ in Christian Union and the Orange Blossom Church of Christ in Christian Union in Avon Park, Florida.

He was a lifelong farmer, owned /operated Garen�s Excavating and elected Brush Creek Township Trustee for 32 years. He also helped start Brush Creek Volunteer Fire Department in 1969 and continued his service for 35 years.

Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn Helterbrand Garen, one son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Garen of Carmel, one daughter and son-in-law, Aimee and Todd Kinnett of Hollowtown, five grandchildren, Jessica Garen, Colton Garen, Jenna Garen, Kendall Abi Hauke, Adrian Ryan Scott, one great grandchild, Quinten Hauke, mother, Clara Wagoner Garen of Hillsboro, mother-in-law, Dorothy Miller Helterbrand of Hillsboro, brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Carolyn Garen of Hillsboro, three nephews, Dale, Mike and David Garen.

Beside his father, Bob was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Russell Helterbrand.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sinking Spring with military graveside rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
