Janet Wallace, 87, of Lebanon, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Born on August 19, 1936 in Ginghamsburg, Ohio, she was 1 of 6 children to Ivalue & William (Bill) Reed.
After high school, she became a waitress at the Skyscraper Restaurant in downtown Hillsboro, worked on the assembly line making pants at the Pants Factory in Hillsboro, was a cashier at the Hillsboro Sundry Store and sold jewelry at Limes Jewelry Store. Before retirement, she spent the last 10 years of her career as a school bus driver for Centerville City Schools (subbing for Carlisle and Franklin) and received her Groom's license to groom and care for harness racehorses.
While attending a 30-year class reunion in 1984, she met the love of her life, Howard Wallace and they were married May 24, 1986. They loved traveling together whether it was while Howard was racing standardbred horses, the many cruises they went on, or the 23 winters they spent camping in Okeechobee, Fl.
Janet's talents were many, and when she wasn't in the casino pulling the arm on the slot machine, she was an accomplished sewer, quilter, crafter and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She was a proud member of the Hillsboro Chapter Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards with the "gang," and any traveling or shopping adventure with the "girls." She loved donkeys and would collect figurines from all her travels. She had a natural love for children and loved her family with all her heart. You could find their pictures all over the house, especially in her sewing room where she spent most of her time. She will be remembered for her contagious smile, her warm generous heart, her calm welcoming nature, and her witty sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Dougie & Gary, sister, Wilma Jean Hopkins, sister-in-laws June Fisher and Judy Fisher, brother-in-law Jim Snyder, and brother, Jackie Lee Fisher.
Janet is survived by her husband of 38 years Howard Wallace, sister Rita (Fisher) Snyder, brothers Ronald "Ronnie" (Alice) Fisher and Harold Fisher, son Timothy (Maureen) Trefz, granddaughter, Stevie (Frank) Nagy, grandson Perry (Eden) Trefz, great-grandaughters, Sydney, Alexis (Lexii) and Savannah, a great-grandson Skylar and many many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Her legacy will live on for generations to come, inspiring those who were around her with her full of life energy and her selflessness that will continue to remain in the hearts all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 12:00pm - 1:30pm with services immediately following at Thompson Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will be at Rest Haven Memory Gardens.
Our family would like to extend a sincere thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Queen City Hospice.
