John W. Meranda, 81 years of Hillsboro, died Thursday, October 25, 2001 at his residence.
He was born in Russellville, Ohio on January 21, 1920 the son of the late Samuel I. and Lelia Crabb Meranda.
He was a member of the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. He worked at the Streetman Biscuit Company in Cincinnati and the United Biscuit Company now the Keebler Biscuit Company in Chicago, Illinois, where he retired January 1, 1981 after 40 years as production management. He was a forty-four year member of the J.B. Covert Lodge #437 F. & A.M., Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa, Florida, and Egypt Temple of Shriners, Tampa, Florida. He served as treasurer of the Tide Country Club in Seminole, Florida, treasurer of the Shriner Golf Club Egypt Temple in Tampa, Florida, and president of the Timber Woods Condo Association in Largo, Florida.
Beside his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Samuel Leo Meranda, and sister, Emma Meranda.
He was united in marriage on May 3, 1941 to Ruth Moore Meranda, who survives. He is also survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Jan Meranda of Wheaton, Illinois, Terrence Lee Meranda of Hillsboro, Michael and Mary Meranda of Villa Park, Illinois, daughter, Patricia Meranda of Hillsboro, five grandchildren, Samantha A. Meranda, Bridgot M. Meranda, Emily R. Meranda, Michael B. Meranda, Clint T. Meranda, great grandson, Jakob John Meranda, and sister, Dorothy Purdin of Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church in Hillsboro with Rev. James Caldwell and Rev. Beverly Warner officiating. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Russellville, Ohio.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 till 6:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Masonic services at 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home with Scottish Rite Service to follow.
