John Raymond Mootz, 78 years of the Hollowtown Community, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at his residence.
He was born March 31, 1931 in Lawrence County, Ohio, the son of the late Charles and Laura McConnell Mootz. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Berwanger and Lee Ryan Berwanger, five brothers and two sisters.
John Raymond owned and operated the Mootz Grocery in Aid, OH. until moving to Highland County in 1966 and bought the farm. He worked 30 years for John Deere dealers in Hillsboro, including Paul Birch, Suiter Sales and Service, Luschek and Hillsboro Farm and Lawn until his retirement. He was a member of the New Market Baptist Church and Highland County Farm Bureau.
On April 28, 1958 he was united in marriage to Willa Jean Kelley Mootz who survives. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Kathy Mootz of Hillsboro, Robert and Kelly Mootz of Lynchburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rita Mootz of Lynchburg and fiancé Alan Gregory, Sandra and Jerry Berwanger of Sardinia, Glenna and Gary Crouch of Hillsboro; ten grandchildren, Rhonda Dane Wells, Melissa Jeff Colley, Ashli Kevin Mather, Amanda John Waits, Megan, Candice and Adam Crouch, Trystan, Felicia and Hunter Mootz, 11 great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law Keith and Sheila Mootz of Kitts Hill, OH; one sister and brother-in-law Joy and Harold Gannon of Ironton, OH.; several nieces, nephews and host of friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro, OH..
Dale Mootz and Brent Spears will officiate with burial to follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
