John Vernon Rittenhouse, 79 years of Hillsboro, passed away at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday December 15, 2021 .
He was born in Hillsboro on March 18, 1942, the son of the late Renick and Evelyn (Vanzant) Rittenhouse. Besides his parents, he is also preceded by his son, Craig Alan Rittenhouse.
John was a 1964 graduate of Ohio State University, and in 1983, John started and was owner of Rittenhouse & Associates after working many years in the banking industry. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Past President of the Hillsboro Rotary Club, Past Chairman of the Highland County Heart Fund Drive, Past President of the Hillsboro Jaycess, Past Chair of the Highland County segment of Canters Cave 4-H Camp. John was the owner of Rocking R Tack Shop where he and Kay provided a place for 4-H children and families to get items to care for their horses, was a proud supporter and show announcer for 4-H horse shows for over 40 years and a staunch supporter of the community and youth.
John is survived by his wife, Kay (Patterson) Rittenhouse, whom he married in 1963, daughters, Laura (Todd) Salome of Buckeye Lake and Julie (Ed) Bolender of Greenfield, grandchildren, Thomas Baird, Victoria (Jacob) Sonner, Jonathon Hannahs, Cierra Bolender and Sebastian Bolender, great grandchildren, Addison and Delilah Baird, sister, Ann (Carmen) Cummins of Pioneer, OH and brother-in-law, Wm. Michael Patterson of Cincinnati.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday December 21, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsboro. Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday December 20, 2021 at the church.
