SMITH, John Edward, age 69, Hillsboro, Ohio, was welcomed to Heaven on May 24, 2008 after a courageous battle of cancer.
Beloved Husband of Rose Mary, loving Father of Sheila Robert Sams, John "Jay" Sandy, Donnie, Ronnie Anna, Randy Teresa, Grandfather of Mandy Doug Rhodes parents of 1st great grandchild expected Oct.1, 2008, & Rob Jr. "Bub" Sams; Mallory & Katie; Jackie, Joey, & Jesse; Julie, Ronnie Jr., & Justin; Britany, Miranda, & Michaela, Brother of Eleanor Helterbrand, Armetha Reed, Emma Jack Puckett, Etta Faye Orville Huff, Harry Betty Smith; Son-in-law of Mildred McGowan. Preceded in death by parents Walter "Earl" and Neta, siblings Jim, Earl Jr., Bud, & Maxine. He is further survived by other relatives, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
John was a retired operating engineer; enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening, hunting, trapping, playing basketball, softball, and camping at Paint Creek with his family. John was a driver for several Mennonite families in Highland County and has many dear Mennonite friends. He was a member of the Northview Baptist Church and volunteered his labor on their recent building program. He loved helping his family and friends and his last wishes expressed was to see them all again in Heaven!
Visitation will be held on May 29, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Northview Baptist Church, 1139 Northview Drive, Hillsboro Ohio, where funeral services will be held May 30, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Brother Jeff Griffin and Steve Henderson officiating.
Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro, OH is in charge of arrangements.
