Lawrence D. Cappy Pyle

August 31, 1912 — July 31, 2002

Lawrence D. Cappy Pyle, 89 years of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton following a sudden illness.

Mr. Pyle was born August 31, 1912 in Clinton County to the late Samuel C. and Bessie Winfield Pyle.

He attended Adams County Schools, where he excelled in basketball, then attended Wilmington College. He served as manager for the A & P grocery chain in Wilmington and Lynchburg, then worked at the Wright Aeronautical Corp now GE in Lockland through World War II. He farmed in Highland County, first at the Point, and then in Marshall Township until retirement. He was active in 4H work for many years. He was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church

Mr. Pyle married the late Mary Gowin Pyle in 1936, and they raised six children all of whom survive: Dr. James Pyle wife Elisabeth Mucie, Indiana, Dr. David D. Pyle wife Dr. Linda Kutilek, Columbus, Fred L. Pyle wife Barbara Fremont, Nebraska, Daniel L. Pyle, Panama City, Florida, Mary Ann Merrill husband Gregory Dayton, and Rebecca J. Pyle, Dunedin, Florida. His sister, Doris George of Clarksville also survives.

There are as well eleven grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Pyle, Chicago, Laura Pyle, Downers Grove, Illinois, Stephen Pyle, Loveland, Edward Pyle, San Francisco, Scott Pyle, Muncie, Rhonda Phillips, Columbia, South Carolina, Cynthia Lakofka, Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Michael Pyle, Columbia, Missouri, Rebecca Pyle, St. Louis, and Griffin and Hannah Merrill, Dayton. Seven great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the Marshall United Methodist Church with Rev. Janie Shoemaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Friends Cemetery in Clarksville.

Friends may call on Friday from 6:00 till 9:00 P.M. at the Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The body will lie in state Saturday at the Marshall United Methodist Church from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M.
