Leon Pettit, 84 years of Winchester, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Peebles, Ohio.

He was born in Grange City, Kentucky on December 11, 1924 the son of the late Tobe and Helen Bradshaw Pettit.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers; Hubert and Robert Pettit and one sister; Madge Wakeley.

Leon was a member of the Johnson Church of God in Grange City, Kentucky and a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife of sixty seven years, Hazel Barber Pettit of Winchester, son and daughter-in-law Dennis and Janis Pettit of Winchester, two brothers; Vernon Pettit of Grange City, Kentucky and Emerson Pettit of Jamestown, Ohio, two sisters; Nellie Taylor of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Lovell Caudill of Grange City, Kentucky, one step grandson; Darren Underhill of Winchester, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Kentucky with Randall Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Bradford-Sullivan Chapel in Winchester and Sunday from 1:00 till 2:00 P.M. at the Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Kentucky.

Memorials may be made to Winchester-Wayne Township Life Squad or Winchester Fire Department.
