Luther Carroll Shoemaker passed away peacefully on February 4, 2015 at his home. He was born in Adams County on July 14, 1925, the son of Marcus and Venus (Peterson) Shoemaker. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn (Campbell) Shoemaker and an infant daughter.
Carroll graduated from Peebles High School in 1943. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. After he returned from the Army he was married on November 9, 1946 to Kathryn Campbell, his wife of 68 years. He retired from the General Telephone Company after 36 years of employment. He attended the Dunkinsville United Methodist Church and was very active in church activities, especially the music of the church. He loved to play his fiddle, spend time with his family, enjoyed hunting and working with his oxen, horses, and mules.
He is survived by eight children: Four sons: Dennis (Synda) Shoemaker, Denver (Teressa) Shoemaker, Mark (Terry) Shoemaker, and Kriss Shoemaker. Four daughters: Carolyn (Robert) Crawford, Debra (Mickey) Miller, Sue (Rick) Fulton, and Joyce (Tim) Copas, one brother, Gerald Shoemaker, 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman. Burial will follow in Cherry Fork Cemetery with military rites given by the Adams County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. till 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
