Marie K. Tye, 94, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Marie was born Dayton on July 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Francis and Helen (Shelby) List. Besides her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Gene Tye, daughter, Julie Stricker, brothers Francis "Sonny" List, Thomas List, sister, Alice Brumbaugh.
Marie attended Fairview High School in Dayton where she went on to graduate from Miami Jacobs Business School and afterwards worked at the VA Hospital in Dayton for several years until marrying her husband Gene in 1952.
Her remarkable life was first and foremost punctuated by her commitment to her family and an uncompromising faith in Christ. As a life long member of the Lutheran Church, she rarely missed service and never failed to read her bible nightly. Her faith was a constant testament to her family and all who came to know her. She was the proverbial "stay-at-home" mother who managed her children's after school activities, always doing the driving during those days while husband Gene worked evening shifts. She often times volunteered as a home-room mom and ensured her children attended church and bible study on Sundays. She loved music, right up to the end of her life, particularly the era of Big Band Swing, and easy listening singers like Andy Williams and Perry Como. She loved to bake, especially at Christmas, and always kept the house filled with decorations and Christmas music. After her children grew and moved on, she and husband Gene took up traveling with camper in tow and ventured to locations throughout the US.
She is survived by daughter Linda Tye, of Hillsboro, OH; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Joan Tye, of Sumter, SC; son-in-law, Jerry Stricker of Centerville OH; nieces Kimberly Riley and Ann List of Union, OH; 5 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Memorial donations may be made to Peace Lutheran Church.
