Mark "Randy" Shelton passed away on September 30, 2024, at the age of 64. Mark was born on April 3, 1960, in Hillsboro, OH. After graduating Fairfield Local High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served 3 years in Germany and was honorably discharged as a SP4 on October 1, 1981. Mark's background in the military ultimately led him to a career as a Flight Sim Tech at ABX Air. He loved working there, and over the years he was blessed to make so many good friends that meant the world to him.
Mark is preceded by his parents, Ronald and Barbara (Spruance) Shelton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dee Shelton; his sister, Michelle (Mary LeVan) Adkins of South Vienna; and his brother, Joseph Shelton of Highland. He is also survived by his children, Brittany (Keith) Barnett of Pleasant Plain and Luke Shelton of Leesburg, as well as his grandsons, Dean Barnett and Cole Houck, along with a host of cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Mark was a man of many talents and had a seemingly endless knowledge of everything from hot rods and history to physics and theology. For many of us, he was the smartest man we knew. His quick wit and sense of humor will be dearly missed. He loved the outdoors, and while he didn't hunt wildlife, he was an avid hunter of rocks and mushrooms-he couldn't pass by an interesting rock without picking it up, and his eagle eye could spot a penny-sized morel mushroom from yards away!
Mark's genuine personality and love for life touched all those around him. He was always quick to help a friend in need, never hesitating to go out of his way to offer whatever he could.
Although Mark's spirit has left this world, we are thankful for the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and take comfort knowing he was a man of faith and that we will be together again in the Kingdom of God.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 7, 2024, at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg, followed by military rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
