With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary P. Barker, who left this world peacefully on March 19, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 17, 1941, in Ohio, Mary's journey through life was marked by her unwavering love for her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Mary is preceded by her parents, Floyd and Effie (Case) Turner, husband, Wayland Barker, two grandchildren, brothers, Paul , Richard and Charles Turner and sisters, Dorothy Meyers and Jean Turner.
Mary was a dedicated bus driver for the Western Pike Local Schools, where she not only ensured the safety of her young passengers but also shared a smile and a word of encouragement to all she met. Her work was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, always caring for those around her with kindness and compassion.
She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love in her sons, Richard "Rick" (Anita) Barker and Michael "Mike" (Candi) Barker, daughters, Linda McLeod, Kathy Phillips, Pamela (Greg) Gilmore, Debbie (Wayne) Scharbrough, and Tammy (Dusty) Coyle; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and sister, Ruth Williams. Family gatherings were her utmost joy, filled with laughter and stories that will be remembered fondly by her children and their families.
In her quiet moments, Mary found joy in crossword puzzles, a testament to her sharp mind and playful spirit. Her hands were often busy in her garden, where she lovingly nurtured flowers that blossomed under her care, mirroring the beauty she brought into the lives of others.
Mary's life will be celebrated in a ceremony that will embrace her spirit and the love she held for her family. The funeral services will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles. Burial will follow at the Cedar Chapel Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of services on Tuesday at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
