Mary Frances Faris, 91 years of Hillsboro, passed away on Friday October 4, 2013 at the Heartland of Hillsboro.
She was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on January 13, 1922, the daughter of the late Paul B. and Darthula "Dot" Williams Quesenbury. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Richard E. "Dick" Faris on November 4, 1979 and brother Quentin Quesenbury.
She married the love of her life, Richard Faris on May 23, 1941. After graduating from Eastern Oklahoma A&M University in 1942 she began working at Beech Aircraft Corporation in support of the War Manpower Commission. Years later, after moving to Hillsboro, she received her teaching degree from the University of Cincinnati and began a highly respected teaching career at the Hillsboro Elementary School system that spanned nearly thirty years. Recognized as an outstanding teacher of reading, she continued to tutor young students well into her seventies.
Mary Frances was always very proud of her Native American Choctaw heritage. She enjoyed knitting scarfs for Indian Schools and members of the military. She other hobbies included gardening, and collecting antiques, Indian dolls, and Steiff stuffed animals. She loved all animals, especially her own dogs and cats which quickly became "members of the family."
She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, Emblem Club, Order of Eastern Star and Phi Delta Kappa, among others.
She is survived by her sons Stephen C. Faris of Hillsboro and Thomas B. Marni Faris of Springfield, two grandchildren Kristi N. Ron Fickert of Wilmington and Matthew B. Amy Faris of Wilmington, step-grandchildren Ellie K. Jason Bonner of Kingsland, GA and Jeffrey D. Gochenour of St. Augustine, FL, great grandchildren Cole M. and Chase N. Fickert of Wilmington, Alison and Kayla Fickert of Jacksonville, FL., step-great grandchildren Dillinger M. and Fallon H. Bonner of Kingsland, GA and nieces Kimberly F. Steve Weimer of Dayton, Dana Corky Hollaway of Federal Way, WA and Lynn Quesenbury of Yakima, WA; Special friends Cheryl Greene of Corbin, KY and Max Howard of Roswell, GA.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday October 8, 2013 at the Thompson Funeral Home with Tom Claibourne officiating. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 P.M. on Monday October 7, 2013 at the Thompson Funeral Home.
