Maurice Dale Teeters, Washington Court House, passed away at Court House Manor on March 21, 2015. He was born in Clinton County, Ohio, on August 23, 1927, the son of the late Gordon R. and Melda (Smith) Teeters. He was a 1945 graduate of Leesburg High School.
On April 12, 1947, Dale married Janice (Snider) Teeters, who survives. Three children were born of this union: Jane Helterbrand, Washington C.H., James (Jamie) Teeters, Washington C.H., and Jeffrey Dale Teeters, deceased. He has five grandchildren: Heather (Brian) Anderson, Jamestown, Heath (Billie) Helterbrand, Chillicothe, Janelle (Rick) Mead, Washington C.H., Megan (Nick) Lashutka, Upper Arlington, and Rob J. Teeters, New York. His eleven great grandchildren are: Dillon and Cole Brickner; Caden and Hayley Anderson; Madison Helterbrand, Jack and Jordan ("Libby") Mead; Kuyper, Duke, Ike and Drake Lashutka. Other survivors are a brother, Scott Teeters, Hillsboro, a special sister-in-law, Lulabelle Teeters, Leesburg, several nieces, nephews and friends.
In the early years, Dale was a hard-working Highland County farmer. In 1962, he accepted a position as a tax settlement clerk for John McCreight, Highland County Auditor, where he worked for five years. In 1967, Dale took a position with the Board of Tax Appeals, Division of County Affairs, in Columbus, later becoming chief of the division. He was an adviser to the legislature on matters of taxation. In 1978, Dale left the state department to form his own company Teeters Consulting and Research Services, at which time his son, Jeffrey, joined the firm.
In 1981, Dale received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Technical Letters f rom the Cincinnati Technical College. During his career, he received awards from Kiwanis, Rotary Clubs, Chambers of Commerce, Ohio State Treasurer and Auditors. He spent two decades of service to local governments. Upon son Jeffrey's death, the firm closed.
Dale attended Samantha Friends Church where he taught the adult Sunday School class for 30 years.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 25, 1:00 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, Hillsboro, viewing from 11:00 am until the time of service. Pastor Dan Cook and Pastor Rick Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Samantha Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samantha Friends Church.
