Mercedes Bernice Munn, 89 years, formerly of Phoenix, AZ, and Cincinnati, OH, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at her residence in Hillsboro.
She was born in Crookston, MN on November 16, 1919 the daughter of the late Arthur A. Nelson and Haege Maria Jorgens Nelson. Mercedes was a dedicated member of Phi Beta Psi, a sorority that supports cancer research, and was lucky enough to travel to all seven continents. Mercedes was a graduate of North Dakota State in Home Economics, teaching Home EC and Chemistry. She also earned a wartime certificate in Occupational Therapy from the University of Illinois which is how she met her late husband Jay A Munn, a wounded soldier.
She is survived by two daughters and sons in-law; Victoria Munn and Bruce Lamb of Hillsboro, and Elizabeth and Tracy Corder of Federal Way, WA.; four grandchildren, Dr. Laura Scott McGuckin of Alexandria, VA., Jonathan N. Lamb of Denver, CO., Marshall D. Popham of Seattle, WA., and Derek M. Popham of Seattle WA., and one great granddaughter, Paige K. McGuckin.
Mercedes requested her body be donated to the Wright State University College of Medicine, with internment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
