Norman Dow Smart

Norman Dow Smart, 83 years of Cherry Fork, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at the Ohio Valley Manor in Ripley, Ohio.

He was born in Haydenville, Ohio on September 20, 1920 the son of the late Dow and Laurel E. Pollock Smart.

Mr. Smart was a former civil service employee at the Defense Electronics Supply Center in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1939, and received a bachelor?s degree at Ohio University in 1957. A World War II veteran, Mr. Smart was a member of the 134 Field Artillery Band. He served in Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons and Central Europe from October 1940 to July 1945. Mr. Smart was a member of the Winchester Freemason Lodge and the 184th class of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. As a former Cherry Fork resident, he served on the village council. He was a member of the First Families of Ohio.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn Frecka Smart.

He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Smart, daughter and son-in-law, Jerry and Laurel Margaret Ginn, one son and daughter-in-law, Norman Dow II and Kristina Miller Smart, three grandchildren, Michael Andrew Ginn, Margaret Danielle Griffith, Jesse Miller Smart, two great grandchildren, Ashley and Scott Griffith, and five nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held at the Morton Family Cemetery in Newberry. There will be no visitation.

Lewis-Sullivan Funeral Home in Seaman is in charge of arrangements.
