Opal Newman Minton, 87 years of Columbia, South Carolina passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Brian Center Nursing Home in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was born in Sinking Spring, Ohio on November 15, 1923 the daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Helterbran Newman.
Opal was a member of Chapin United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George Minton who passed away in 1993, one daughter; Peggy Minton, two brothers; Lester and Kenneth Newman, one sister; Helen Cassidy, and one great grandchild.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; Thomas and Sherry Minton of Grove City, Ohio, one daughter and son-in-law; Phyllis and William Crookham of Columbia, South Carolina, two brothers and sisters-in-law; Frank and Wanda Newman of Dayton and Robert and Janet Newman of Maryland, one sister; Mary Ruth Monroe of Waynesville, Ohio, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles with Steve Zinser officiating. Burial will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 A.M. till 1:00 P.M. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Peebles.
