Ralph E. "Curly" Mathews, 75 years of New Vienna, died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

He was born in Highland County, Ohio on May 1, 1932 the son of the late Curtis Countryman and Ethel Mathews.

He was a member of the Mt. Olive Church of Christ, former member Dalton Lodge #579 F.&A.M. of New Vienna, Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati and Syrian Temple AAONMS Cincinnati, Farmers Union, and Highland County Senior Citizens.

Beside his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley M. Mathews, who passed away on July 9, 1997.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Nicki Mathews of Las Vegas, Bennie Mathews and fiancée, Arleen Kay McGarvey of New Vienna, Gary and Carol Mathews of Shelbyville, Kentucky, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Gerald Pinkerton of Lynchburg, half brother, Don Countryman, half sister, Shelvajean Antle of Pataskala, Ohio, fifteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Russell Lieb officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday from 5:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
