Richard "Dick" Behm

Richard Wesley "Dick" Behm, 87, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully with family by his side, Thursday, May 11, 2023.

Dick was born on July 19, 1935 in Adams County, the son of the late Lewis W. and Lida (DeVore) Behm. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Helen M. (Ross) Behm on August 11, 2015; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Effie Behm; sister, Sandra Lou Behm; special friend Mary June Thompson.

Dick is survived by his four children, Zelda (Steven) Karnes of Hillsboro; Vanessa Johnson of Leesburg; Val (Tracey) Behm of Washington C.H.; Janell (Jason) Allison of Greenfield; eleven grandchildren, Rebecca (Joe) Taylor of San Jose, CA; Sara (Drew) Mathews of Ankara, Turkey; Kalie (Brad) Grigsby of San Rafael, CA; Erica (Sean) Dumford of Washington CH; Colleen Kline of Chillicothe; Breanne Johnson of Washington CH; Taylor (Matt) Totin of Columbus; Jordan Behm of Cincinnati; Jase, Jayden and Janson Allison of Greenfield; thirteen great grandchildren, Luke, Elijah and Mira Mathews; Audrey, Amelia and Adelyn Taylor, Corbin and Carter Dumford; Ellis Renault; Isaac Johnson-Bunch; Landon, Levi and Elle Grigsby; sister, Janet (Bill) Butler of Hillsboro; sister in law, Anna Masterson of Cincinnati; several nieces, nephews,cousins and a host of friends.

Dick was raised on the family farm in Belfast where he graduated in 1954 from Belfast High School. He was active in the Belfast United Methodist Church and 4H where he learned his love of farming and livestock. After graduation he joined the Army National Guard and served as a Medic. He worked for Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio) which later became BP. He became manager of BP in Greenfield and Hillsboro. After retiring from BP, He worked at The Union Stock Yards through 2022. He was a lifelong farmer and raised sheep and cattle. He also owned and operated the Behm's Concession where he served corn dogs at many fairs and festivals. He was known as the "Corndog" King.

Dick was a member of the Fall Creek Friends Church and a member of the Cees & Ettes Sunday School Class. He enjoyed working and serving people at the annual Pancake Supper at the church.

Dick was also a member of the Highland County Antique Machinery Club and had restored many family owned tractors.

Dick loved attending sports events to cheer on his grandkids from several school districts and basketball was his favorite. He enjoyed his many trips to McDonald's for group Retiree's meetings, not to mention Beanie Baby Collection trips for which he had the whole family making trips as well to add to his collection. He loved life and all his adventures traveling all over the country, as well as abroad. One of his favorite was the Hawaiian cruise with all his family to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary. He showed his family love, hard work ethic, curiosity for people and genuine friendly interest in all he met.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at the Fall Creek Friends Church, 11345 Karnes Road, Hillsboro, OH 45133.

Pastor H. Scott Latimer will officiate with burial following in the Stringtown Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at the Fall Creek Friends Church.
