Robert Bob A. Curtis, 88 of Hillsboro, passed away on October 15, 2013, surrounded by family at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe.
He was born August 23, 1925 in Highland County, son of the late Harry H. and Louise Johnson Curtis. On July 19, 2003, he married his loving wife Luise Runyon Curtis.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, his beloved Armed Guard to Omaha Beach, Murmansk, Russia and Okinawa. He served on the USS Hermitage during WWII.
For 25 years before retiring in 1990, he worked as a shipwright for yacht companies. In addition to being a decorated veteran, Bob was a member of the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, life member and past Quarter Master of Highland County VFW Post 9094. He was also a life member of AM Vets post 61, a member of the American Legion Post in Bainbridge, and Sons of Confederate Veterans. He also served as past Secretary/Treasurer of the Highland County Veterans Memorial Fund. He enjoyed reading World War II historical novels, watching football, long drives in the country, and sharing stories of his life.
Bob is survived by his wife Luise; two daughters, Terry Curtis of Columbus and Tyla Windland of Virginia; one son Kim Curtis of Urbana; four step-children, Christine Greg Hurst of Indiana, Floyd Runyon of Carrollton, TX, Karen Burson of Hillsboro and Cathy Ed Coleman of Loveland; grandchildren, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 18 step-grandchildren and 22 step-great grandchildren. Special friends, sister-in-law Connie Hoffman and husband Kenny from Urbana, Jim and Barb Oelker of Urbana.
He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, four brothers, Dean, Charles, Frank and Kim, one sister, Mary, and one step-daughter, Peggy Loch.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday October 19, 2013 at the Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 12:00 Noon until time of service at the Thompson Funeral Home.
