Rose Marie Wilkin

Rose Marie Wilkin, 97 years of Hillsboro, died Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Kettering Medical Center.

She was born in Brown County, Ohio on May 6, 1910 the daughter of the late Omar Manford and Mary Rachel Gilbert Sheldon.

Rose Marie was a member of the Serenity in Christian Union Church formerly Berrysville Christian Union Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was a 1929 graduate of Blanchester High School and at the age of 93 attended the Chatfield College. She was the oldest member of the WCTU, NSDAR Waw-wil-a-way Chapter, Highland County Historical Society, chairman of American History Committee, Highland County Senior Citizens, where she was a champion pool player. She was inducted into the Highland County Women's Hall of Fame, she was a newspaper reporter for over 50 years at the Times Gazette, and she was also an author and artist.

Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Charles C. Wilkin whom died July 6, 2001; one son John Charles Wilkin; son-in-law Nelson Snapp; daughter-in-law Charlene Ann Gnau-Wilkin; 3 grandchildren; 1 brother John Sheldon; 2 sisters Dora Rusk and Beatrice Wilson.

She is survived by three sons & daughter-in-laws Robert & Jeanie Wilkin of Enon, Ohio, Thomas & Mary Wilkin of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Gerold & Debra Wilkin of Hillsboro, Ohio; three daughters & sons-in-law Rose Mary & Lee Roy Newman of Bellbrook, Ohio, N. Charlene & Richard Tarr of Hillsboro, Ohio and Jeannette Snapp of Hillsboro, Ohio; one daughter-in-law Janet Wilkin of California; 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Serenity in Christian Union Church, 237 South High Street, Hillsboro with Pastor Mike Ballentine and Pastor Marcus Tolle officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 till 8:00 P.M. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
