Sara L. Redkey, 94 years, of Lebanon, OH., formerly of Hillsboro, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Mason Health Care Center in Mason, OH.
She was born November 18, 1915 in Boston, OH., the daughter of the late M.E. Brud and Floy Hudson Lucas. The eldest of 5 children. She graduated from Greenfield McClain High School in 1933. She was a mother, farmer and a caseworker for the Highland County Human Services for 25 years. She took a 10 year break from her job as a caseworker in 1957 to raise and care for her family before returning to work. Never one to be idle after retirement she took a small part time job at the Press Gazette.
In her younger days Sara was a member of the New Petersburg United Methodist Church, after marriage she transferred her membership to the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church where she was involved in many things.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband William J. Bill Redkey, who died in 1990 and four brothers, Paul, James, Dwight and John Lucas, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lucas all of Greenfield.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Ford Halter, one grandson, William Jacob Halter of Lebanon, OH., three sisters-in-law, Hilda Lucas, Irene Lucas and Anna Lou Lucas all of Greenfield, OH, plus many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of her life at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church in Robison Hall on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. John Cramton, Sara's nephew, officiating. Following services, friends and family are invited to stay for a time of food and fellowship.
