Shirley Mae Decarbo

Our beloved mother passed peacefully from this life in the early hours of January 1, 2024, at the age of 91, following a brief illness. She was in the care of Cincinnati Hospice Center and died with family at her side. Born in New Castle, PA, to Mary Malinda Dout (deceased 1934), she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Marie Dout. She learned later in life through DNA that her birth father was John Montanary, of New Castle (deceased 1995.)
Shirley is survived by her four children; Kathleen Louise Graham of Butler, PA, Everett Johnson III (Pam) of Seadrift, TX, Rebecca Lynn Bailey (Craig) of Loveland, OH, and Nathan James Johnson (Carolyn) of Thompson Station, TN. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who all loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her first husband Everett Johnson, Jr. and also her second husband Alfred DeCarbo.
Shirley was a graduate of Shenango High School and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She worked many years as a Registered Nurse in New Castle's St. Francis and Jameson Memorial Hospitals, and in Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL.
She will be remembered as a loving mother and dedicated Labor and Delivery nurse. While living in New Castle, Shirley was a long-time member of First Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church.
A memorial service will be held graveside at Savannah Cemetery in New Castle at a future date.
