Shirley Ann (Guhlke) Rhoads, age 80, of Sinking Spring, passed away May 20, 2016.
She was born in Harrington, Washington on July 12, 1935 to the late Elmer and Thelma (Atkinson) Guhlke.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rhoads; one son, Richard Rhoads; two grandchildren, Justin Michael Rhoads and Paris Spring Rhoads; her step father, Albert Guhlke; four sisters, Dora Jean Taylor, Claris Ebert, Dee Loutzenhiser, Kaie Nelson; and one brother, Ralph Guhlke.
Shirley was a beautician and farm wife. She married her husband of 59 years, Charles Richard Rhoads, on May 26, 1955 in Davenport, Washington. They met when he was stationed in the Air Force at Larson Air Force Base, Moses Lake, Washington. Shirley and Charles had two sons, Richard William and Gary Michael. Shirley spent much of her time caring for ill and elderly members of the Rhoads family.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law who, in turn, cared for her in their home, Gary and Kathy Rhoads of Sinking Spring; daughter-in-law, Linda Rhoads of Sinking Spring; seven grandchildren, Stacy, Clay, Caleb, Annie, Chad, Chasity, and Kaiti; seven great grandchildren with an 8th on the way; two brothers, Bill Guhlke of Idaho, Jim Guhlke, and two sisters, Margaret Bingle and Pudge Brown , all of Washington; two brothers-in-law, Wilbur (Freda) Rhoads, Larry (Jacqui) Rhoads; three sisters-in-law, Rhea Bell, Norma Brown and Barbara Fitzpatrick; a special aunt, Viola Riley; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Honoring her wishes, a graveside ceremony will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at the Locust Grove Cemetery where family and friends are invited to attend.
The Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring is in charge of arrangements.
Family requests memorials to the Brush Creek Community Center.
