Thomas William Tom Laughlin, 55 years of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at his residence.
He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on May 11, 1948 the son of W.L. and Mary Lucille Sorensen Laughlin.
He grew up on a farm, and when he was a young boy he was an avid hunter and trapper. He graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in Animal Science. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity in Ames, Iowa, and The Fraternity of Alpha Zeta. After graduation he worked at Diamond Laboratories as production manager, he owned ?The Stable? a western store in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he was a broker for Dave Jones Realty in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and was office manager for Edward Jones Investments in Hillsboro. He was a member of the Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included trap shooting, camping, golf, and model trains. Tom participated in RAGBRAI, which is a 100 mile a day annual bicycle ride across Iowa, sponsored by the Des Moines Register; and he rode the entire week after having his first kidney transplant.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.L. Laughlin.
He was united in marriage on August 9, 1968 to Nancy Jean Lynn Laughlin, who survives. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Roy Zinser of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, grandson, Rick Zinser, mother, Lucille Laughlin of Shenandoah, Iowa, sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Ann & Terry Engelmeyer of Shenandoah, Iowa, brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael Lee and Linda Laughlin of Imogene, Iowa, Richard Louis and Mary Jane Laughlin of Sidney, Iowa, Steven Gerard and Peggy Laughlin of Imogene, Iowa, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Chris West of Louisville, Kentucky, sister-in-law, Joan Bird of Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tom?s life will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Rocky Fork State Park in Hillsboro at the Sycamore Grove Shelter House at East Shore with Rev. Maurice Mitchell officiating.
A reception will be held following services, where family will receive friends.
Hope Miller-Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro is in charge of arrangements.
